"The answer is, it happened at 2:30 a.m., chasing a burglar down the hallway of my San Francisco hotel when my Achilles tendon ruptured; I then fell in an ignominious heap to the carpeting, bruising the other leg in process. Surgery on Friday."

After the event, , Trebek told the media that he was asleep in his room Tuesday night when he abruptly opened his eyes. He saw a figure in his room and thought he was dreaming.

Then he noticed a wad of tissue being used to prop open his hotel room door, Trebek said. A woman ran out. He put on his underwear and ran down the hall, he said. He could not see anyone but then saw a woman walk out of what appeared to be the ice machine room. That's when he started the chase and got injured. Hotel security officers were able to detain the woman at about 3 a.m.

According to ABC 7 San Francisco and TMZ.com, 56-year-old Lucinda Moyers was arrested and charged with felony burglary and possession of stolen property.

Moyers appeared in court on Thursday. She has two prior convictions for residential burglary in San Francisco in 1990 and 1991, and served time in state prison for both, said Erica Terry Derryck, spokeswoman for the San Francisco District Attorney's Office.

Derryck said the district attorney has not yet decided whether to prosecute the burglary as a three-strikes case.

Moyers is being held on $625,000 bail and was also ordered to stay at least 150 yards away from Trebek and his wife.
