Car Fire Extinguished in Kaiser Parking Lot

A one-alarm fire called to contain burning car in Kaiser Permanente parking structure.

Black smoke billowed from a partially enclosed parking structure downtown due to a parked car engulfed in flames Friday afternoon in Mountain View.

The call received at approximately 2:31 p.m. reported a vehicle fire at 555 Castro Street in the lot belonging to Kaiser Permanente. The Mountain View Police Department quickly activated three engines, a rescue and a truck.

Patch, from the scene, heard when fire fighters reported the fire contained about 2:46 p.m.

"The sprinklers helped a lot," said department spokeswoman Jaime Garrett. "Sprinklers help contain 96 percent of fires from growing larger."

By 3:15 p.m. patients began to exit the parking lot; some with cars dirtied by the soot.

The burnt car was a gray Honda Accord LX.

The Fire Marshal arrived on the scene and began to investigate the cause of the fire.
