Mountain View, Are You Ready for the Plastic Bag Ban?

Mountain View's ordinance goes into effect on April 22.

In a little over a month, don't expect to get a plastic bag when you go shopping.

The City of Mountain View's plastic bag ban goes into effect on Earth Day, April 22 and it will affect every store in the city except restaurant and non-profit thrift stores like Goodwill.

To help remind local shoppers, small table top tents have begun to appear at different stores.

These tents use illustrations to explain that no plastic bags will be given out starting on that date. Paper bags will be available at a cost of 10 cents. However, there's no charge to use reusable bags.

The ordinance was approved by the City Council on Dec. 4, 2012.
