Single in Silicon Valley: Hello, 2012!

Instead of resolutions, I'm thinking of a revolution.

Happy New Year!

We made it though gift exchanges, white elephant parties, scandelous office parties and awkward family photos!

Now it's 2012: the time we tell ourselves that good things are in our midsts.

It is true. We can make good or better decisions, we can plan a path for success, set business and personal goals. Choose to be happy.

That last one can be somewhat hard, though. I sometimes don't know what makes me happy. I've learned over time to be careful of what you wish for, because when you get it, it can be more than you bargained for...or be very lackluster.

I decided not to make resolutions this year, but to instead have a revolution. Make a significant life change. Specifically, change the way I see my life in general.

I believe life is a series of experiences, some chosen, some placed upon us. I want to have as many positive experiences as possible this year. Last year, I decided to try and do one new thing every day. Some were as small as taking a completely different route somewhere. Others included officiating a wedding, seeing a Broadway play in NY and staying in a ritzy hotel.

So this spurred my revolution: see life differently. Experience life differently.

I plan to take a couple of international trips as part of this revolution. Fly to London, purchase a Eurail pass and travel between three countries. Get off at a station on a whim. Explore the surroundings. Learn about the cultures. I also hope to fly to Australia as well. Fingers crossed.

Let the revolution begin...and let's hope the Mayan calendar predicting the end of the world, isn't correct.
