Dominick A. Curatola, MD recently established a concierge medical practice in Mountain View, California, combining his specialty in cardiology with a return to full internal medicine coverage for his patients, and an emphasis on age management and wellness strategies. Dr. Curatola’s new concierge or personalized care model allows him more quality time with patients to provide a proactive, rather than reactive approach to overall health and wellness.
Board certified in both internal medicine and cardiology, Dr. Curatola completed his internship and residency at The Johns Hopkins Medical Center and his Fellowship in Cardiology from Yale University. He currently serves as the Medical Director at the Norma Melchor Heart & Vascular Institute and is Chairman of the Cardiovascular Service Committee at the El Camino Hospital.
“I have always preferred to take care of the whole patient – body, mind and spirit – as I believe these three entities should never be separated in the context of health and wellness,” notes Curatola. “In my new personalized care practice I will not only care for my patients as their internist and cardiologist, but also as a wellness advocate and health care partner. Proactive medicine is about keeping patients healthy, not only treating them when they are ill.”
Physicians across the country are establishing concierge practices in order to return the physician-patient relationship to the forefront of their medical care. By reducing the number of patients in their practice, physicians are able to spend more quality time with their patients and offer same day or next day appointments. Furthermore, patients are given their physician’s personal cell phone and email address so they have the ability to contact their own doctor directly after hours and on weekends.
To assist with his practice change, Dr. Curatola enlisted Specialdocs Consultants, Inc., a national health care consulting firm that transitions traditional medical practices to a personalized care or concierge medicine model. The practice transition services provided by Specialdocs offer a viable alternative for primary care and subspecialty physicians who want to maintain their autonomy in our evolving health care landscape.
