Award-Winning Writer Adds Buddhist Teachings To Recovery Efforts in Mountain View Session

Insight Meditation South Bay is hosting an evening with Valerie Mason-John (aka Vimalasara), award-winning writer and co-author of Eight Step Recovery – Using the Buddha’s Teachings to Overcome Addiction.

Mason-John will speak from her Eight Step Recovery book and lead a meditation on Tuesday -- June 17 -- at 7:30 p.m. in Mountain View at Edward Hall in St. Timothy's Church, 2094 Grant Road.

Mason-John has written eight books and works as a consultant in conflict transformation, restorative justice, leadership, and anti-bullying.

She lives in British Columbia, and is the chairperson of the Vancouver Buddhist Centre, where she leads a weekly meditation class for people in recovery from addiction.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:

This information should be useful for anyone suffering from unwanted habits or harmful behaviors, including addictions, and who are interested in discovering a richer and more fulfilling way of living.

The talk will also be of value to professionals working in the field of addiction, as well as those caring for someone with an addiction, or in relationship with a person struggling with addiction.

The Buddha's teachings offer an understanding of how the mind works, tools for helping a mind vulnerable to addiction, and ways to overcome addictive behavior, cultivating a calm mind without resentments.

This event and information is offered by Insight Meditation South Bay (imsb.org), a local non-profit founded by Shaila Catherine in 2006 to promote mindfulness-based meditation practices.
