Now that the weather is warming up, it’s time to get up and go with your family, including the family dog. And don’t let meal times stop you—there are a number of restaurants with outdoor seating that don’t mind if your pooch dines with you. To be on the safe side, call first and double-check that the restaurant welcomes dogs.
Your dog should be socialized and calm around other people, especially children. The Dog Friendly website has some additional etiquette tips to keep in mind when dining alfresco with your dog:
- Leash your dog to your chair and not a table. A dog tied to a table can result in spilled drinks or food if he or she is strong enough to make the table move.
- Try to keep your dog close to your table or chair so he or she is not in the server's path.
- Dogs are not allowed on the chairs or tables.
- Bring your own doggie bowl for water. Under state law, pets are not permitted to eat or drink out of restaurant glasses or dishes, unless they are disposable.
