Caltrain informs residents of Peninsula that it will perform routine maintenance at several locations next week, including in Mountain View.
Between Sunday, Jan. 6, through Thursday, Jan. 10, crews will operate heavy duty on-track machinery to grind and align the tracks between the Menlo Park and San Antonio stations.
To avoid delays to passengers, the work will take from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. There will be some construction noise but crews will work as quietly as possible.
On-track maintenance machines must run at full throttle in order to work properly. Tampers have vibrating motors that generate noise. Ballast regulators use a large, rotating broom to sweep up the ballast, which produces both noise and dust. Large lights also are used. This work will not disrupt Caltrain service. The Caltrain rail line is 146 years old and serves 12 million riders annually.
