Get Out! 5 Things To Do This Weekend: March 17-23

Think of it as an active week for both body and mind.

Engage in neighborhood leadership activities, take your kids to exercise classes, enjoy a trip to the ballet, give your kids an early start with math and science and then let loose with some indoor soccer, all right here in Mountain View. Check out what's happening in and around the city this weekend, and don't forget to add your own suggestions in the comments section below.

  1. Spend Thursday evening at the City Council Neighborhoods Committee in the Plaza Conference Room of , from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The focus of the neighborhood meetings is to identify ways to improve city services and make your neighborhood a better place to live. These meetings are a valuable way for residents to meet council members and staff as well as allowing the city to hear directly from the people who live here.
  2. Thursdays also mean Full Force Fitness’ , weekly from 4-4:45 p.m. at 1954 Old Middlefield Way. Classes consist of leadership training, martial arts skill-building, nutrition education and physical conditioning. This $75-per-month program teaches children how to avoid conflict and be successful and also about two important aspects of violence prevention—to value and respect life.   3. Company C Contemporary Ballet presents its Winter Program 2011 Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. at the . Named one of Dance Magazine's "25 to Watch" in 2010, the Company C Contemporary Ballet presents ballets from the “quintessentially neoclassical to soaringly contemporary.” The program presents masterworks and premieres by nationally recognized choreographers, including Artistic Director Charles Anderson, formerly of the New York City Ballet, and Benjamin Bowman. The cost for this show is $43 for adults and $40 for seniors, students and children ages 12 and under (ticket prices include a $3 facility use fee). Order tickets online or call 650-903-6000. 
  4. On the schedule for Saturday is “Thinking Big, Learning Big: Connecting Science, Math, Literacy & Language,” a hands-on workshop for parents and children from ages 3-8. This educational class will be held within the Community Room of the city's, 585 Franklin St., from 2-3:30 p.m. Contact the library at 650-903-6337 for more information. 
  5. Saturday means the Indoor Soccer Tournament at the Mountain View Sports Pavilion, 1185 Castro St., from 7-9 p.m. Exhibiting the talents of high school players, this free indoor tourney will ensure an affordable, exciting Saturday night.
