Why go: Enjoy restaurant dining, shopping, kids' activities, farmer's market, live music and custom/classic cars on display. Tonight's band is The Colony Street Band, which plays jams from the 60's through the 90's.

Where/When: 344 Tully Rd, San Jose, CA 95111 (Santa Clara County Fairgrounds; Aug. 4 to 7 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Why go: See live performances, a livestock auction, a pet parade and go on the rides. It's great for adults as it is for kids.

Pricing: While admission to the is free, each ride takes three to five tickets that you can purchase on the fairgrounds. Ride tickets are $23 for 25 coupons, and $70 for 80 coupons. There is also a Pay One Price ticket for $25, available for use only on the day of purchase.

Red Rock Weekend Line Up

Where/When: , 201 Castro St.; Friday, Aug. 5 and Sat. Aug. 6 at 8 p.m.

Why go: Come listen to indie pop band The Jordan Emmans band from Campbell on Friday and the post-pop electro-soul sounds of Bravo Juliet from the Fraser Valley on Saturday.

Pricing: Free

Where/When: 2731 N. First St., San Jose, CA. Open daily until August 31st. 

Why Go: Blood donors can beat the heat and get a cool ice cream treat after you're done. The American Red Cross "Pint For a Pint" promotion runs through the end of August and allows any donor that donates a pint of blood to receive a coupon for a free pint of ice cream at the nearest Baskin Robbins location.

Musicians United for Safe Energy Concert

Where/When: Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountain View, Aug. 7

Why Go: It's a benefit concert and portions of the proceeds will go to Japan earthquake disaster relief organizations. Why else? With a lineup like Crosby, Stills & Nash, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Jason Mraz, Kitaro and Sweet Honey in the Rock, this folk music festival promises to be amazing.
