Grab and Go Kids Planner: High School Sports, Ballet and More

Where/When: 2028 Old Middlefield Way, Mountain View; Wednesday, Aug. 31 for pre-ballet ages 3 and 4 come between 5:15-6 p.m.; pre-ballet ages 5 to 7 come between 6-6:45 p.m.; and ballet ages 8 to 12, come between 6:45-8 p.m.

What: The new season of Bayer Ballet will start soon and the dance company, which teaches in the Vaganova method of classical ballet, has begun its recruitment for members. If you attend one of these, it'll be easier for Bayer Ballet to determine the placement for your child, i.e. choose a group that's right for her/him. Previous ballet experience is not required for the kids that are up to 10 years old.

Why Go: Fresh off a strong 2010 season that resulted in a Central Coast Section playoff berth, the Eagles return to the court this week with a non-league tussle against Lynbrook High in San Jose. Senior captain Heather Sangster leads a talented group of Eagles into the 2011 campaign. 

Where/When: TheatreWorks, , 500 Castro Street, Mountain View. Thursday and Friday night at 8 p.m. Saturday showtimes at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Sunday performances at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Why Go: Based on the classic Jane Austen novel, the tale of two sisters and their wild journey through life, love and everything in between begins this week in Mountain View. The period-piece is a history lesson, comedy and drama all rolled into one. 

Pricing: $49 adults, $39 seniors, $29 full-time students.

Where/When: Oak Grove High School, 285 Blossom Hill Rd, San Jose, CA 95123. Friday, 7 p.m. kickoff. 

Why Go: The St. Francis High football team kicks off the 2011 season with a big-time showdown against perennial Central Coast Section playoff performer, Oak Grove High in San Jose. The juicy week one matchup is a must-see for any football fan.

Where/When: , 1451 Middlefield Rd, Palo Alto, CA 94301. Weekly on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: With "Gizmos and Gadgets,'' kids can explore simple machines and see how they make hard work easier. Lift up someone bigger than you or test your strength in this hands-on exhibit. Kids can also check out the two newest members to the zoo, a pair of baby swell sharks and leopard sharks that makeup quite a foursome in the 500-gallon tank on site.

Where/When: 600 W. Evelyn Ave., Mountain View at the Caltrain Parking Lot. Sunday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Why Go: The variety and quality at the local market is unmatched. The weekend treat gives shoppers a little bit of everything. Fresh fruit, yummy baked goods or fresh flowers all are within your reach every Sunday in Mountain View.
