Hot Water Restored to El Camino Y

Anxiously awaited part arrives from Colorado, is replaced and all is well again.

For El Camino Y members who hate having a good workout routine disrupted, grumble no more: Hot water is back at the El Camino YMCA.

Elaine Glissmeyer, the executive director of the El Camino Y, sent out a two-sentence email message at 4:46 p.m. Saturday announcing the good news to grateful gym rats.

"El Camino YMCA is pleased to announce our hot water has been restored," she wrote simply. "We thank you for your patience while we resolved this issue."

Patrons of the YMCA branch on Grant Road next to El Camino Hospital and Cuesta park have been redirected to other Ys since the hot water circulation pump broke Thursday night, flooding the basement and causing the Y to scramble on Friday morning.

The hot water couldn't be restored until a part arrived from Colorado, Glissmeyer had said in a message later Friday. The part arrived, but had to be installed.

A quick call to the Y confirmed hot water was coursing through the facility's pipes, at last.

"Yes, it's true!" exulted Jimmy Horwege, who handles membership. He said the part was installed Saturday morning and they allowed time to make sure all was working as it should.

So, get back into your routine, confident you can take a hot shower afterwards.
