In Memoriam: 'Bill is Like an Angel'

After the memorial service for William Ware, words of support and encouragement continued to reach his grieving family.

The family of wanted to share this email they received from one of the directors at Sacred Heart Community Service, a non-profit agency in San jose. Ware would take the bus from Mountain View there to volunteer regularly and left a lasting impression. This email was sent to Ware's niece Dolores Marquez:

Good morning Dolores,

I want to thank you and your family for allowing me to be a part of the most amazing memorial service that I will ever encounter.

I was so inspired by all of the things that so many people said, all of the ways that Bill impacted lives on such a deep level. I feel so honored to have known him in the little way that I did, and to have been blessed by his presence at Sacred Heart.

I was so moved by what I heard that I shared some of the stories and my impressions at our staff meeting this morning. One of our coordinators who welcomes corporate volunteer groups used Bill's story as well this morning, after hearing what I said, to inspire the volunteer group to "be like Bill" and live out their value of service.

I've visited monasteries in my life and learned that the goal of a monk is to "live as the angels live," that is to be in constant worship of God. As I listened to the retired VTA worker speak last night about how Bill lived out the Fruits of the Spirit, I thought, "Bill is like an angel." He lived out the fruits of the spirit, worshipping God through his acts of kindness. He was also an angel in that he was at the right place, at the right time, for people in need. He was there in time to help someone get onto the bus, there in time to mow the lawns of the elderly, there in time to give encouragement to a young man who is headed in the wrong direction. God used Bill for amazing things and I am humbled by it.

We will be honored to help you and your family remain involved at Sacred Heart as you are able and interested. I'm happy to give you a tour, let you volunteer some time, or anything else that makes sense to you. If you have limited time, the holidays are a wonderful time to get involved. We have about a dozen very involved days of distribution where we serve thousands of food boxes, toys, and bikes to families in need. It is truly an inspiring time.

In the more recent future, we'll be giving out 2300 backpacks filled with school supplies to children in need on August 10th through our "Pack-A-Back" program.

Feel free to browse our website to learn more about who we are and what we do: www.sacredheartcs.org

Ultimately, we are able to impact the lives of our low income community members because of hundreds of dedicated souls, like Bill.  Thank you for allowing us to share in his amazing life.
