LinkedIn Sued for $5 Million; Microsoft Reveals its Surface Tablet

A look at the ways that Mountain View technology companies have made the news this week.

An Illinois woman smacked LinkedIn with a $5 million lawsuit for its infamous security breach.

The professional social network, she stated, should have had a better system in place before six million passwords were stolen two weeks ago. Yet a LinkedIn spokeswomen said the suit was without merit and driven "by lawyers looking to take advantage of the situation."

Google and Apple continue to face competition from Microsoft, whose largest campus outside of Washington . This week, Microsoft unveiled the "Microsoft Surface," a tablet boasting a 10.6 inch screen that runs on the company’s new Windows 8 Operating System. The basic version is equipped with 32 or 64 GB of memory, while the powerful Pro has 64 or 128 GB.

celebrate its 25th anniversary Saturday by volunteering at Lee Mathson Middle School in San Jose. From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., upwards of 500 volunteers will paint, garden and do repair work at the school. The opening ceremony’s speakers include Chuck Reed, the mayor of San Jose.
