Journalism is changing. Have you noticed?

People increasingly use their smartphones to read and watch the news, but what hasn't changed is the essence of journalism—the accurate reporting about things and issues communities care about.

Last week, Patch President Warren Webster announced on the official Patch Blog post a partnership with Dow Jones News Fund (DJNF), which all 40 summer editorial interns can participate in.

This 2013 interns, chosen from across the country—just like Los Altan Courtney Buchanan who interned for the Patches in Silicon Valley in 2012—will be invited to attend DJNF digital workshops at Western Kentucky University.

The week-long program provides intensive training to complement their work with their respective Local Editors. In teams, the interns will focus on digital storytelling via text, photos, video, audio, mash-ups and data visualization.

Their travel expenses and housing will be covered, the interns get an hourly wage and interns still in school will receive a $1000 scholarship upon completion of the program.

Candidates must be a rising undergraduate junior or senior, recent graduate (Dec 2012 or later), or graduate student to apply. If you know possible intern candidates who may be interested in this internship, ask them to visit www.patch.com/jobs or email PatchU@patch.com with a resume, cover letter and two or three relevant writing samples.

Applications due Feb. 28, 2013.
