Sato the Ultimate Boy Scout

Jeffrey Sato, now a scoutmaster, has worn many uniforms in his service to the Mountain View community.

The rainstorm on Saturday didn't ruin the weekend for dozens of Cub and Boy Scouts from Silicon Valley.

More than hundred people—boys and their families—descended on Boulder Creek for skills- and team-building exercises.

One of the safety instructors at the BB gun range was Scoutmaster Jeffrey Sato. Many in Mountain View recognize Sato from his 30 years in the Mountain View Police Department and as president of the Kiwanis Club of Mountain View.

But for 28 years he's been in leadership positions with the Boys Scout and in particular Troop 87, which meets at the Mountain View Buddhist Temple. He was already an Eagle Scout when he became the assistant of Troop 87 at age 26.

Mountain View Patch bumped into Sato at Cub-Parent Weekend on Sept. 21-22. He joked that now Patch has taken a picture of him in all three of his uniforms!

Corrections made on Sept. 23 at 3:30 p.m. The correct reference to the air gun is "BB" and not "bee bee," as originally written. Also, Sato became an assistant to Troop 87 at age 26, not 23 as originally written.
