Train Strikes Person Near Charleston Road in Palo Alto

The morning commute has been affected by at least 2 hours, Caltrain officials say.

Caltrain began to run trains past scene of a fatality this Monday morning in the South Bay.

A man died after being struck by northbound train No. 211 at about 6:50 a.m., spokeswoman Christine Dunn said. The incident occurred just north of the Charleston Road crossing in Palo Alto, located between Palo Alto's California Avenue and Mountain View's San Antonio Stations, according Dunn.

All trains will make local stops and both tracks are now in operation. However, trains are travelling at 10 mile per hour, according to Caltrain's official Twitter feed.

Soon after the incident, a bus bridge was put in place to operate between Menlo Park, Cal Ave., Palo Alto and San Antonio Station. Buses will be in place for both north and south travel, according to Caltrain's official Twitter feed.

As of 7 a.m., police were at the scene, and there was expected to be up to a two-hour wait, according to Caltrain.

The death marks the fifth fatality on Caltrain tracks this year.
