'Unacceptable Levels' Documentary Hopes to Screen in Mountain View for Earth Day

An award-winning documentary Unacceptable Levels - about the chemicals in our bodies, how they got there and what we can do about it --  is hoping to screen on Earth Day -- April 22 -- at the Century Cinema 16  at 1500 N. Shoreline Blvd. in Mountain View.

The 7:30 p.m. planned showing will only happen if at least 79 people RSVP in advance -- before April 15 --  that they want to see this film, according to Susan Cann, a Redwood City resident and one of the film's producers.

Unacceptable Levels examines the results of the chemical revolution of the 1940s through the eyes of affable filmmaker Ed Brown, a Pennsylvania father seeking to understand the world in which he and his wife are raising their children, according to Cann.

Brown's efforts began as a one-man crusade, Cann said, publicized through a Kickstarter campaign  -- which is where Cann first saw the movie-in-the-making and was instantly compelled to get involved.  

"I saw that trailer and went, 'Oh, my God,'" she said. "And I contacted Brown and said I want to donate my time to this."

Brown and his hand-held camera traveled extensively to find and interview top minds in the fields of science, advocacy and law, and weaves their testimonies into a compelling narrative, she said.

The film has won numerous festival awards worldwide, has nearly 10,000 followers on Facebook and was screened last week in Sacramento for California EPA officials, she said.

"It's the most amazing thing," Cann added. "It's so exciting." 

The film's backers are using Tugg as a grassroots way to book screenings.
