May 1

  • What started as a way to heal from the tragedy turned into a vehicle that brought people together to raise funds for Japan. The Run for Japan fundraiser took place Sunday, May 1 at Shoreline Park with about 800 people registered to run or walk

  • The future of High Speed Rail is the topic of columnist Jarrett Mullen's column this week. He posits that in order to save the project, save Caltrain and save money, a viaduct through the Peninsula might be inevitable.

May 5

  • The Silicon Valley Chapter of the Red Cross honored three Mountain View men—Mike Tyler, Josh Cottrell and Juan Gomez—at its 5th Annual Heroes Celebration Thursday afternoon at the Hyatt Regency in Santa Clara, for their good samaritan acts that helped save the lives of two people.

  • In this week's "Bit & Bytes" we summarize some of the week's news. Of note, LinkedIn chooses NYSE over Nasdaq, Y Combinator Ranked Second Best Start-Up Accelerator and Krillion acquired.

May 7

  • Caltrain will increase space for bicycles on its weekday train service. The project will convert 10 standard gallery cars into bike cars, allowing each weekday train set to increase its capacity to 80 spaces in two bike cars.
