A La Carte and Art to Salute Cinco de Mayo this Year

Mountain View gears up for the annual event to take place May 5th and 6th.

Believe it or not, festival season is right around the corner.

For Mountain View residents and neighbors, that means one thing—A La Carte and Art takes place next weekend, May 5th and 6th along Castro Street.

The festival producers from Miramar Events, who've put on A La Carte and Art for years, said this year's features will include longtime favorites as well as some fresh, new elements.

One of those new element this year will be a "Cinco de Mayo" theme of sorts.

"Since Cinco de Mayo takes place the same weekend as the festival, this year we'll be doing a salute of sorts to Cinco de Mayo," Tim Beeman from Miramar Events said. "That means, margaritas, mojitos, Sangria, and a mariachi band will open the festival on Saturday."

Beeman said, many regular features of the festival will be expanded this year as well, such as the art and food.

"We'll be featuring many fresh, new artists, and many new handmade, gourmet food selections as well," he said. "There will also be many new features in the kids' section, and the music will be all new—all the bands are fresh and new this year."

Beeman said one of the biggest new kids' features this year will be the addition of Radio Disney.

"The Radio Disney road crew will be coming out and hosting music with dancing, and games with prizes," he said.

Beeman said, the classic car show that debuted last year will be back by popular demand, as well—but bigger and better.

"Last year, we had about 20-30 different cars each day—this year it looks like we'll be doubling that, with help from Hot San Jose Nights," he explained.

Hot San Jose Nights—a popular classic car show that takes place in the south bay each summer—will partner with the festival this year to help grow and expand the classic car show portion of the event, known as "A La Car and Art."

In a nutshell, Beeman said, this year should be pretty spectacular.

"There's all kinds of fresh, fun, new stuff this year, so it should be a real festive weekend," he said. "Not to mention, Castro is probably the coolest street on the Peninsula to do a festival, with all the coffee shops and book stores, cafes and boutiques—that's for sure."
