D.L. Hughley to Perform in Mountain View Police Benefit

Funds raised at the "Night of Laughter" will go to the Police Activities League.

Comedian, actor and writer D.L. Hughley will perform in Mountain View this fall thanks to a unique local connection.

Hughley partnered with champion dancer Cheryl Burke in "Dancing with The Stars," and made it halfway through the competition during the show's 16th season.

As the planning got underway for the Mountain View Police Activities League (PAL) "Night of Laughter," event organizer Police Detective Eilaine Longshore approached Sherri Burke—CEO of the Cheryl Burke Dance studio and the dancer's mother.

"I was hoping they could get me in touch with his publicist," Longshore said. The studio's instructors teach dance to middle-school students who participate in MVPAL throughout the year.

This gesture got the ball rolling and Hughley got involved.

"Cheryl facilitated this. She told him to go," Sherri Burke said about the conversation that began in March. "Cheryl would have loved to come but it's when the next season starts."

The performance will benefit the Mountain View Police Activities League (PAL), a non-profit organization that aims to increase the relationship between youth and police officers through non-confrontational settings to divert them away from gangs and criminal activity.

As a youth in Los Angeles, Hughley had joined the Bloods criminal gang.

The comedy night will take place on Friday, Sept. 27th at the City of Mountain View Center of the Performing Arts. Prior to the event there will be a "meet & greet" with the Police Chief, Police Department Command Staff members and local politicians. Pre-show reception at 5:30 p.m. Showtime at 8 p.m.
