The Cheryl Burke Dance Studio in Mountain View will hold an all-day ballroom dance showcase featuring a wide assortment of student and professional talent from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, at 1400 North Shoreline Blvd. # A-1, Mountain View.
General spectator admission is $15 per person for the entire day and includes light snacks and general dancing between performances in one of the spacious ballrooms of the 14,000-square foot complex.
“The audience will have a chance to watch a friend, family member, and other dancers perform,” said Brigitte Levy, manager at Cheryl Burke Dance, Mountain View. “They can enjoy the studio and also dance socially during the intermissions.”
“Spring Fever Showcase” offers an opportunity to witness a few hours or a full day of dedicated dance students, performing with their instructors under the watchful assessment of a professional judge who grades student strengths and notes any areas where improvement is needed. The event also provides an overview of the local ballroom dance community: people of all ages, skill-levels, backgrounds, and various cultures, all intent on mastering a spectrum of dance patterns and routines.
A wide range of styles will be performed – dances in Latin, Smooth, Swing and Nightclub categories. Dancers will demonstrate steps and patterns in Cha-Cha, Rumba, Samba, Merengue, Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz, Tango, Quickstep, West Coast Swing, East Coast Swing, Jive, Hustle, Two-step, and Salsa.
The Showcase schedule includes a series of Dance Heats, where a number of dance couples (student and instructor) dance the same style (such as Foxtrot) at different skill levels at the same time, and Solo Performances, featuring one instructor with one student at a time. In addition, formation teams will exhibit synchronized choreographed routines.
As a day-end finale, professional instructors will don costumes and use props to entertain the audience with colorful dance routines.
An optional post-showcase dinner with students, instructors and a limited number of spectators will be held at the Blue Pheasant Restaurant, 2210 Stevens Creek Blvd., Cupertino. Seating is limited, dinner price is separate from the Showcase admission charge, and reservations need to be made in advance by phoning the studio.
