Get Out! An Exhibit at CSMA, a Trunk Show at the Mayor's House and Back-to-School Supply Drive

Want something to do in Mountain View this weekend and beyond? Try some of these activities.

Understanding and appreciating art can be all about perspective. That's what the new exhibit at the (CSMA) highlights. The exhibit A Few Seconds From Above: Paintings by James Allison looks at those fleeting moments of interactions in everyday life, but from an aerial view. The exhibit kicked off at CSMA’s Mohr Gallery on Aug. 10 and runs throught Sept. 30, with a closing reception and artist talk on Friday, September 21, 6 to 8 pm.

Feeling hot and want to stay indoors? Head to and catch the premiere of Sparkle, the movie Jordin Sparks starred in with the late-Whitney Houston, during the midnight showing starting Aug. 16. Also starting tonight from the makers of Coraline, ParaNorman 3D.

Do you love craft shows?. Don't want to leave town this weekend? Head to a Trunk Show hosted by Lisa Kasperzak, the "first lady" of Mountain View. A trunk show is like a "pop-up shop"—yes, another term you should know—where artists gather in a casual environment to exchange ideas and shop! Stop by 1172 Morton Court, Mountain View between 4 and 7 p.m. this Saturday, Aug. 18 and sit poolside with a glass of champagne. Call 650-941-2479 to RSVP; it's not required, but appreciated.

Support the Back to School Drive at the 2nd Yipee Annual Do-Gooder Mixer. On August 23 from 5 to 7 p.m. stop by Union at 601 Showers Drive and bring three to four new, unopened school supplies. By doing so, you'll be entered to win a Kindle Fire. Click here to RSVP.

Tasting is back on August 25th from 10 to 11:30 a.m.! Enjoy a single origin coffee brewed five different ways—French Press, the Clever dripper, a Chemex, espresso, and your standard home drip machine—and learn how each method brings out differences in the coffee bean. Space is limited to eight and they fill up quickly, so patrons must register in advance. Cost is $20 and includes a 12oz bag of the fine single-origin coffee from the event. Payment is required to reserve your seat. You can come in to pay in person or call us at 650-967-4473 to pay with Visa or MasterCard.

CSMA is also having an Open House this Sunday, August 19! 10 am to 1 pm. You can get a guided tour of the school, watch art and music demonstrations, hear some really talented music students perform. Preschool kids and their parents can do some hands-on art projects. Older kids can help paint a mural. Faculty and staff will be on hand to answer questions about our Private Music Lessons, art classes and music classes; and you can sign up for the Fall Semester right then and there! Oh, and there will be refreshments, compliments of Hobee's!
