Students make the best gifts

  • Stop by the Community School for Music and Arts Friday, Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. for their Merit Scholarship Holiday Concert in Tateuchi Hall. This recital will showcase the work of the talented students in the classical and jazz ensembles. Free.

Want to Salsa?

  •  Dancing with the Stars two-time champion Cheryl Burke stops by her Mountain View studio Cheryl Burke Dance on Friday, Dec. 14 to help you get your sexy back. She'll join forces with two exceptional world-class champions—Arkadiy Polezhaev and  Natalya Panina—to teach beginners international Cha Cha from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m., beginner international Rumba 7:15 to 8:00 p.m. and a beginners salsa dance class at 8:30 p.m. Cost: $30.

Prance, Leap and Smile into the Holidays

  • The Mountain View-based Bayer Ballet Academy will showcase their annual holiday program, "A Winter Fairy Tale" on Friday, Dec. 14 at 7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. at 5:30 p.m., and Sunday. Dec. 16 at 2:30 p.m. at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts. Cost: $28 for adults; $23 for seniors and children.

Early Christmas for Local Kids

  • SAVE THE DATE: The annual Cops That Care gift giveway takes place next Saturday, Dec. 22 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at police headquarters 1000 Villa Street. The Mountain View Police Department and Santa Claus will give toys to kids and small electronic devices to teens. Open to all Mountain View children with proof of address or school affiliation.

Jump Around

  • Red Rock Coffee invites you to stop by and listen to Coast Jumpers, an Oakland-based band that they describe as "fantastic." Saturday, Dec. 15 at 8 p.m.

Let's Go to the Movies!

  • Golden Globe award nominees have been announced and you can find some of them at Century Cinema 16. These include: Lincoln, The Hobbit, Argo, Wreck it Ralph, Playing for Keeps, The Perks of Being a Wallflowers, Breaking Dawn 2, Skyfalls, Rise of the Guardians and Silver Linings Playbook. there should be lots of things going on during the holidays. remove yourself from all of the electronics and go to some of these happenings. maybe there is less activity after the holidays. make it a better new year
