Grab and Go Kids Planner: A Concert, a Play and Great America

Here are our suggestions for how to entertain your kids this Memorial Day weekend.

Where/When: , 3535 Truman Ave., Mountain View, CA 94040 (Spartan Theater); Thursday, 7 p.m. 

Why Go: They have worked hard all year and now it's time to see what the School Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble can do. They will perform musical pieces from composers across the ages—from classical to contemporary.

Where/When: 2500 Old Middlefield Way; Saturday and Sunday, 2 p.m. 

Why Go: If your child wants to be part of Peninsula Youth Theater's production of Bye Bye Birdie this summer, they need to show up for auditions this weekend. If they don't try out, they can't be in the play.

Pricing: $315 (for the summer)

Where/When: , 26870 Moody Rd., Los Altos Hills; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

Why Go: If your kids have ever asked you what things were like when you were their age, they are probably just as curious about what things were like for kids 1,000 years ago. At this Hidden Villa class, kids will explore how kids learned about nature when their survival depended on knowing what to do. The class uses ancient and modern methods of learning. 

Pricing: $45 for first adult and child; $20 for each add't adult or child

Where/When: , 550 Almond Ave., Los Altos, Thursday, 6:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 7 p.m.

Why Go: Aren't you intrigued by the idea of Toy Story 3 1/2? Wouldn't you like to see what a group of elementary school kids can do to entertain you and your children? Support kids at a neighboring elementary school and treat your children to a performance they will enjoy.

Pricing: $5

Where/When: 4701 Great America Pkwy., Santa Clara; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Why Go: The park kicks off its summer season this Memorial Day weekend with its roundup of rides, shows, and more—something for everyone young or old. For members of the Armed Forces. The park will offer free admission to active or retired military personnel all three days of the holiday weekend and special discount admission for members of their immediately family. Military moms and dads: this is a great time to take your kids to this amusement park.
