MV Mother, Daughter Meet Cheryl Burke

The winner of Mountain View Patch's contest for a chance to take a dance lesson with the local celebrity were Joy McCarthy and her daughter Alexandra.

As soon as Joy McCarthy and her daughter Alexandra walked inside the studio on Friday, they were whisked away to meet the star herself.

A few photos and autographs later, the pair giggled with excitement.

Joy and her daughter, a student at , were the winners of for a pair of dance passes for the group dance lesson Friday, July 13, where Burke herself taught the Cha Cha.

"This is so cool," said Joy, who logs-on to Patch as "Just Mom." "We are big fans of the show."

Neither Joy nor Allie, 15, had ever dance before, they confessed to Patch. "Except for my wedding," admited Joy.

But the McCarthy women did well—though much better with other partners than with themselves—and that was the goal, to expose them to ballroom dancing!

Allie's favorite dance was the Cha Cha. Joy preferred the Viennese Waltz.

"I'm not sure if I'll have blisters, but I know I had fun," Joy said.

Editor's Note: Thanks to all of the contest entrants! Keep your dance shoes ready! They'll be other opportunities!

It was fabulous having both Joy and Allie at Cheryl Burke Dance Friday. Cheryl was delighted to have been able to share the joy of dance to both of you. Hope to see you again soon at the studio.
