'The Hunger Games' Premieres at Midnight on 6 Screens at Century Cinema

Will you go see the film version of "The Hunger Games"? Tell us in today's poll.

I admit, that I'm very excited for the "The Hunger Games" premiere this weekend.

I never read any of the Harry Potter books and . I did intermittently watch some of the movies, including "Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2," at but still haven't seen the vast majority of them. I also never read the Steig Larsson series, "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," but I caught up with the DVDs, which I borrowed from the .

I did read the "Twilight" series and enjoyed the easy read, but the age-old legends of vampires and werewolves isn't really my thing.

However, I picked up "The Hunger Games" a few weeks ago after watching many adults on Caltrain reading it and I couldn't put it down! The story about the end of innocence, survival of the fittest, class warfare and standing up to authority are timeless themes, but the fictional world of Panem seems oddly very real and possible.

So according to the early reviews, critics say "The Hunger Games" lives up to its hype and is just as gripping as the book series penned by Suzanne Collins.

According to the San Jose Mercury News, "The Hunger Games" has everything a blockbuster movie should have: a standout cast, loyalty to its literary roots, a palpable intensity and plenty of special effects.

The movie opens Thursday midnight on six screens at and Friday throughout other Bay Area theatres. The movie is not sold out yet, but it's getting close according to the ticket sales agent at the theater.
