Heavy-hearted Lancers Edge Valley on Late Shelton FG
The hometown Saint Francis Lancers defeated Valley Christian in San Jose on a late field goal. Emotions were high in this one.
Senior kicker Jason Shelton connected on a 39-yard field goal, with 36 seconds to play, to lift 10th-ranked St. Francis (3-4, 2-3 WCAL) to a 24-21 victory over No. 9 Valley Christian (3-4, 2-2) Friday night in San Jose.
But it was far from just another victory for the Lancers, following the loss of a member of the St. Francis family, former , who passed away in a car accident earlier in the week.
St. Francis held a brief memorial for Andrighetto before the game and made a plaque to honor his memory.
