Brush Fire Closes Lanes on Highway 237

The California Highway Patrol issues Sig-Alert on route connecting Milpitas to Mountain View.

The on ramps to both Zanker Road and North First Street in the westbound Highway 237 direction have been closed due to a grass fire that has caused the closure of several lanes between Milpitas and Mountain View this Tuesday.

A Sig-Alert was issued at 2:03 p.m. due to the smoke from the grass fire that has diminished visibility on both east- and westbound lanes particularly between North First Street and Zanker Road.

KCBS traffic reports that many people in the area are complaining of smoke and Patch reporter Bea Karnes, on Hwy 237 at the time, saw an ambulance drive into a mobile park home in one of the smokey areas.

KCBS suggests that commuters take Montague Expressway.Sunnyvale Fire and San Jose Police have responded to the incident. According to the California Highway Patrol is unclear what time the lanes will reopen.

Additional reporting by Bea Karnes.
