Human Rights Forum

Wednesday, March 21 is International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.  On this day in 1960, police opened fire and killed 69 people peacefully demonstrating against apartheid "pass laws" in the township of Sharpeville, South Africa.   As an observance of this day, Youth For Human Rights Silicon Valley (www.youthforhumanrights.org) will present a human rights forum.

As a special guest speaker, Anu Peshawaria will speak about the problem of racism today right here in Silicon Valley.  Anu is an international attorney and former world champion tennis player from India.  She is also the founder and head of SevA Legal Aid Foundation, an organization that preserves the civil and human rights of immigrant women.  It is in this field that Anu has seen and battled against racial and ethnic discrimination.

Our second speaker will be Cindy Gray, spokesperson for Youth For Human Rights Silicon Valley.  Cindy will  present how racial and ethnic discrimination can be eliminated through education of the articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.  She will have on display educators guides, DVDs and other educational materials that can be used to eliminate racism through education.
