Making New Connections for Fun or Fulfillment

How do you make new friends in the internet age? Someone who shares your spiritual values, likes to do the same things, or offers you the opportunity to expand your business connections. Find people online, then meetup in person.

Meeting new friend gets tougher as you move through life. When you’re in school it’s easy to make new friends. When you’re older, you make friends with the parents of your kids’ friends, even if you have nothing else in common other than your children.

But if you’re yearning for new connections in your life there’s an easy way to find people looking for the same thing as you. The online community Meetup connects you with groups based on your interests.

Meetup has nearly 100,000 local groups around the world, with more starting each day. The site has millions of monthly visitors. It’s
not a dating site but a place to meet new friends.

Whatever area of your life needs expanding, Meetup can help. There are recreation groups to cover every sport that you can imagine. There are social groups that bond over a love of fine dining, or wine, or going to the latest movies. If you’re comfortable with people your own age, there are
age-specific groups.

Need new business contacts? Expand your network by joining a Meetup in your specialty. As you can imagine, there are dozens of tech groups nearby. There’s also a thriving group for start-ups with hundreds of active
participants. Instant networking!

In addition to attending Meetups, members may email other in the group.

Whether you’re looking to expand your business or social life, Meetup has something for everyone.

after all these years, i still haven't figured out these online matchmaking "services." i really don't think that single adults want to just go on and on without making more friends and maybe hooking up with the right partner. this article has the right idea, maybe if you meet more people, things work out in the long run

@randy albin: Meetup much broader, and not really a matchmaking service. It's a way to meet people who are interested in a certain thing. It could be for business networking or moms who want to hike with their infants in the company of other moms, or ways to meet people who speak a certain language.
