49ers Alumni and Coupons.com Collect Backpacks Full of Food

Mountain View-based Coupons.com launches CouponsforChange.org website to raise money for non-profit Feeding America.

One in six people in the United States don't know where their next meal will come from. Sixteen million are children, reports Feeding America.

Before the school year starts for thousands of elementary and middle school children in the area—in —the San Francisco 49ers organization and Mountain View-based Coupons.com came together to fill backpacks full of food on Wednesday at 500 Logue Ave. in Mountain View.

But it's wasn't a typical "bring a backpack" drive. It was also an opportunity to set a new Guinness World Record.

Coupons.com hoped to create the biggest lunchbox in the world there. It measured ten times the size of a traditional lunchbox. And the lunchbox was slowly filled with backpacks that former 49ers Dennis Brown and Dwight Clark stuffed with food for Bay Area children, part of the InnVision Shelter Network.

But there are other ways to help stop hunger. Coupons.com announced the launch of a new website Wednesday, CouponsforChange.org, for this purpose. The site will allow consumers access to their favorite coupons, and a portion of the money from each coupon will go to Feeding America—the exclusive recipient of the funds raised on Coupons for Change.
