UPDATED Patch Picks: Best Spots to Watch Super Bowl XLV

Some local specials might be a reason not to stay home on Super Bowl Sunday!

Super Bowl XLV, professional sport's most anticipated championship game, takes place Sunday. Have you figured out where you'll watch the Pittsburgh Steelers take on the Green Bay Packers?

Whether you tune in the entire time, only watch commercials or just plan to dance to the Black Eye Peas at halftime, the right atmosphere can make all the difference.

Here's a list of our suggestions for best locations in Mountain View to watch Super Bowl XLV this Sunday at 3:30 p.m.:

  • Head to —Mountain View's very own brewery—and enjoy a microbrew and delicious grub while basking in the glow of the yellow-and-black or the yellow-and-green on the multiple screens. UPDATE: Tied House will have Happy Hours specials. Pints are $3.25 and appetizers will be half off. Also, the brewery will raffle a full keg and a pony keg, in addition to hoodies and T-Shirts.
  •  has big screen TVs and a huge patio area with plenty of seating and is a good place to go to enjoy food and drinks with friends.
  • If the World Series was any indication,  will be a great place to watch the Super Bowl. This Castro Street Irish pub has a huge projector screen along the back wall and half a dozen flat screens along the bar. Get there early, and save your seat. UPDATE: St. Stephen's Green already had a robust football Sunday menu and it will also be available on Super Bowl Sunday. These are the specials: Pitcher of Bud Light, Santa Cruz Hefeweizen, Fat Tire and Sierra Nevada plus a combo platter for $25; Bucket of $5  beers (selected American brews) plus one order of certain appetizers $20.   • A few doors down on Castro,  has several flat screens along the bar, so show up early if you want a seat! There's no kitchen, but Don Giovanni's next door delivers (So no chicken wings! But perhaps calamari?)
  • Tucked away in the alley at 236 Castro St., Mervyn's Lounge, a dive bar, has three televisions, and reviewers on Yelp tout the "great prices, great service and great people." For more information, call 650-938-2968.
  • , next to True Value Hardware, is a dive bar with multiple flat-screen TVs and a laid-back atmosphere. It is a go-to establishment for locals who want a social place to watch the games.
  • If you seek a restaurant-style atmosphere, at 2560 W. El Camino Real will have televisions mounted on the walls, and sport fans can bite into burgers, fajitas, tacos, quesadillas, baby back ribs, chicken and seafood dishes. Easier than cooking at home, huh?
  • Since work begins again on Monday, head to  at 820 E. El Camino Real for Sunday's game, and get a head start on the week. The bar hosts a free barbecue every Sunday from 2-5 p.m., and provides free food for Monday night football during the season, so imagine what they'll do for the Super Bowl.

  •  is a local dive bar at 2534 Old Middlefield Way that has several large-screen HD televisions and a jukebox. Good choice if you want to avoid downtown.

  • Not too far on 2135 Old Middlefield Way,  has several flat-screen TVs that will be tuned into Super Bowl central. If you live in the North Bay Shore area and don't want to drive, this could be a good choice.

  • Regardless of which team you decide to root for, have fun, tip your waiters and bartenders, and don't drive home drunk. Cheers!
