Black Friday Around Mountain View

Shopping carts and parking lots were full at the San Antonio Shopping Center.

Did you go shopping Thursday night? What about on Black Friday?

Mountain View is a destination for shoppers in the region because of the big-box retailers like Walmart and Target, and others like Kohl's all within such close proximity.

I arrived shortly after 1 a.m. and first noticed the line outside of Gamestop, which opened at midnight. The store decided to allow a few customers in at a time, so most waited patiently outdoors—in the cold.

Kohl's also opened at 12 a.m. and people continued to trickle in and out. Inside, the queue for the registers wrapped around corners and at least 75 stood on line when I stopped in.

Then it was off to Walmart. The first thing that stood out were the rented barricades out in the parking lot. I wondered how many people had stood there prior to 8 p.m. when the doors opened. Inside, to the right, the customer service area and McDonald's were packed. To the left, dozens of 32" Samsung flatscreens on sale for $248 tempted buyers.

There was definitely a lot more shoppers than at Kohl's and Target, but it felt like any other day at Wal-mart.

By the time I got to Target at 2 a.m., it was pretty empty.
