CNN Features Mountain View's New Black Accelerator

Soledad O'Brien visited the city several times this summer to document the life of eight Black entrepreneurs who want to succeed in Silicon Valley.

Are there enough Blacks in Silicon Valley?

That's the question CNN's Black in America series considered as Soledad O'Brien reported on Black founders of startups members of the NewME Accelerator.

The entrepreneurs lived in a house on Leong Drive in Mountain View and learned how to develop business plans and pitch just like others have done for years in Silicon Valley. The difference however, O'Brien learns, is that this is the first time an environment has been created that focuses on developing Blacks to do the same.

This has been in the news for a bit (the Wall Street Journal covered it months ago) and I think I found out on TechCrunch. I'm working on the follow up right now. Stay tuned!

I just watched my TIVO'd version. It's definitely worth a look. And, it's fun to see if you can spot some local scenes and people!

Yes, it was fun to tell all my friends back East that this is where I work. Unfortunately, the Mountain View Police moment wasn't very flattering.

I moved to Mountain View from NYC less than two years ago and I think that Silicon Valley has so much great energy. I'm not a programmer/coder/founder, but as a reporter I don't regret my decision at all.
