Evernote Named Company of the Year; Google Takes On Apple

Evernote took home Inc. Magazine top honor for the 2011 Company of the Year. The company located on Evelyn Avenue helps its users remember and organize their online world and according to Inc., they've received cult-like status in Japan. Also, This week Evernote–who in –announced that it had released Skitch for the Apple iPad, in its attempt to further help the forgetful!

Mountain View-based online accounting firm, Outright, released top sales data for the holiday season. November 28 or Cyber Monday was the best sales day for online sellers while December 5 topped the list for offline sole proprieters.

said over 700,000 new Android devices are activated each day. With around 5 million new Android users each week, and with the shrinking gap between Android and iOS, Android is looking to dominate 2012.

Where iPhone’s high price-point limits its expansion into emerging markets, Android’s presence on low-end devices in markets like Asia is expected to further add to its massive activation numbers.

If that weren’t enough, the Mountain View-based tech giant is looking to challenge Apple’s iPad with its flagship Android or Nexus tablet, slated for release in mid-2012. “In the next six months we plan to market a tablet of the highest quality,” Schmidt told an Italian newspaper.

Stop Online Piracy Act or SOPA supporting companies will no longer be allowed at Y Combinator’s Demo Day, announced Paul Graham, its founder and investor. If passed, SOPA will be able to force sites to go offline on grounds of copyright infringement almost instantly.
