'For the Love of Dance' Celebrates its Opening

The local dance community now has another place to call their own.

Friends, family and members of the welcomed dancer Lesley Ruzon to celebrate the opening of her dance studion, For the Love of Dance, the city's newest.

"It's been a long time planning and we are finally here," Ruzon said about the official grand opening before the attendees at the studio located at 2483 Old Middlefield Way.

The dance studio opened in September 2011 and now boasts instruction in ballet, hip hop, jazz, modern, pointe and tap for students of all ages. They also offer Zumba classes three days a week, aerobics twice and yoga on Sundays. Dance teachers can rent space for $25 an hour, and she hopes to bring in more public or private in classes like Bollywood dance Ruzon said.

Mountain View Mayor Mike Kasperzak made an appearance for the ribbon-cutting, happy to visit a business other than a technology company.

"It's nice to add new businesses to the community," said Kasperzak. "I'm excited to see all the new ones in Mountain View especially a different one like this one, which promotes healthy living and exercise."

A transplant from the East Coast, Ruzon has lived in Mountain View since 2000 with her husband and four children. She grew up near Boston and learned to dance at the Judith Clark Academy of Dance. She attended the University of Southern California from where she graduated with a theatre and teaching credential. Afterward, Ruzon Lesley moved to the Bay Area and taught drama and dance in area schools and private studios, while performing in and choreographing musical theatre productions.

"We welcome people of all ages," Ruzon said. "If you always wanted to dance, here's your chance."
