Fresh Choice Closes; Might Reopen as New Restaurant

Thanks to a tip on our Facebook page, we are a little closer to finding out the mystery of what's happened to the Mountain View location.

Don't plan on eating at Fresh Choice this Thanksgiving Day.

The Mountain View restaurant at 2540 W. El Camino Real has a sign that says "Fresh Choice is temporarily closed. Sorry for the inconvenience."

Founded in 1986, the Emeryville-based company has 29 restaurants under the Fresh Choice name. In 2006 the company filed for bankruptcy and Sandy Boyd, owner of Espresso Roma Corporation, bought a number of the existing Fresh Choice stores. But the recession hurt some of the restaurants, which led to Boyd to close the unsuccessful ones and re-brand "the good ones," according to reporting by Capitola Patch.

Mountain View Patch called Espresso Roma and was transferred to an unidentified man who immediately said, "no comment," without leaving an opportunity for questions.

It could be possible that the store will reopen as another restaurant. Next stop, City Hall to ask about building permits. Stay tuned for updates.
