Google Buys 15 Acres of Palo Alto Industrial Park

The company will expand near East Meadow Circle off West Bayshore Road.

Looks like Google has run out of office space to purchase in Mountain View and will put some Googlers in Palo Alto.

The Internet search giant—which now also develops mobile software, driverless cars and computing eyeglass wear—has purchased 15 acres of land near East Meadow Circle, not far from the Googleplex across Highway 101, the Silicon Valley Business Journal reported Tuesday.

The land sale that includes seven industrial office buildings and a vacant lot has been rumored to cost between $60 and $70 million in cash, according to The Registry.

The City of Palo Alto would consider a higher floor-area-ratio that could allow Google to double the size of the project, Aaron Aknin, acting planning director for the city of Palo Alto, told The Registry.

Google won’t occupy the site until after the leases of current tenants expire.

This land grab comes in heels of two stalled Google projects—one in Mountain View and another at NASA Ames.
