Groupon Snags Google Exec; LinkedIn Reveals Most Common CEO Names

The Mozilla Foundation made a move to stay close to Google by when it opened an office in the same office building occupied by the search giant in San Francisco. Though both companies are headquartered here in Mountain View, they maintain office space in downtown San Francisco. Mozilla will use the new offices for events and other collaborative work.

Palo Alto-based Groupon announced that Margo Georgiadis will join their team, leaving behind her position as a Google Vice President. She will serve as Groupon's chief operating officer, where she will oversee global sales, marketing and operations. In December Groupon declined Google's $6 billion acquisition bid.

The mobile browser Skyfire has released a new version of its software for the Android operating system. Skyfire 4.0 for Android includes eight new features which allow users to customize their browser toolbar. Updates include streamlined integration with Twitter, Groupon and Google Reader, among other features. The Skyfire app has been downloaded over 3 million times since its release in April 2010.

The biomedical company Xlumena secured $7 million in Series B funding yesterday. The company develops endoscopy products with the goal of reducing the recovery time of certain medical procedures. The financing was led by Aperture Venture Partners, LLC and included several other investors.

Technology licensing company Rambus Inc. will lend a hand to the Momentum for Mental Health facility in Mountain View tomorrow, as part of the annual National Rebuilding Day. Volunteers from the company will work alongside Rebuilding Together Pennisula and others to repair housing for those in need.

Throw away the baby name books: LinkedIn reports the most common names for CEO's in the United States and the World. The survey results released Wednesday included the most common names for both men and women in the chief executive position, as well as additional data about how names correspond to industry or job title. Data was derived from more than 100 million LinkedIn profiles. Can you guess what made the top?
