Mountain View Unemployment Falls Again

Food service and construction are keeping Santa Clara County employed.

Joblessness is continuing its encouraging downward trend in Santa Clara County, dropping to 6.3 percent in May, down from 6.6 percent in April and over 10 percent back in June of 2011.

In Mountain View, unemployment fell accordingly from 4.8 to 4.6 percent. Back in February it was up at 5.9 percent.

Countywide, jobs were added in construction, finance, manufacturing, information, education, business, leisure/hospitality and government. 

Overall, 6,900 jobs were added in the county from April to May. Compared to the same month last year, there are currently 26,400 more local jobs in 2013. About 2,000 of the new jobs are in the leisure/hospitality sector. According to a state report, about 1,300 of the 2,000 are in food service and drinking businesses.
