According to the restaurant rankers, the Emerson Street Evvia -- "like a 'hug' from a 'Greek mama,'" -- finished among the top six eateries in Zagat's Top Food South of San Francisco category.
On a rating scale of 1 to 30, Evvia earned 28 for food, 26 for decor, 26 for service and an average tab of $56.
Sierra Mar, the fine-dining restaurant at Big Sur's Post Ranch Inn took first place among diners in the "Top Food South of SF" category. And in addition to its Top Food ranking, Evvia came in second as Top Mediterranean/Greek South of San Francisco, Zagat reports.
In Zagat's words: "It's 'as good as any taverna in Greece' attest fans of Palo Alto's 'darling little sister' to SF's Kokkari, which might please 'Demeter' (goddess of the harvest) herself along with the power-lunching 'tech crowd' and special-occasion celebrants digging into the 'fantastic,' 'inspired' 'high-end' Mediterranean cuisine (with requisite 'high prices'); a 'convivial' (if 'noisy') 'rustic' setting and 'doting' service that's like a 'hug' from a 'Greek mama' complete the picture."
