Stanford Shopping Center Actually NOT Open on Thanksgiving

While many stores are open on Thanksgiving to start the Black Friday shopping blitz early, not all local malls are joining the trend.

While many Bay Area shopping centers anchored by big box retailers will be open on Thanksgiving Day to offer shoppers so-called Grey Thursday discounts, don't count Stanford Shopping Center as among them.

The shopping center is not among Simon Property Group entities in eight states that will be open on Turkey Day for the first time ever. (However, Macy's, which is located there, will open on the holiday at 8 p.m.)

Local Simon workers are likely thankful for that, as more than 16,000 Simon employees nationally have signed a petition protesting the company's decision.

Silicon Valley consumers who do want to shop after chowing down will have to take a road trip, perhaps to Simon's Great Mall in Milpitas, which will open at 8 p.m. Thanksgiving Day and remain open through 10 p.m. on Black Friday.

ValleyFair in Santa Clara, a Westfield property, will open at midnight on Black Friday, though its website said select retailers may open earlier.

Select stores at Hillsdale Shopping Center in San Mateo will be open on Thanksgiving. They include: Ann Taylor, Macy's, Old Navy, Sears, and, handy if you're going to pull an all-nighter, Starbucks.
