In The News: A Geography, Billiard and Volleyball Tournament
Because so much more happens in the city of Mountain View than we can cover!
A lot happens in Mountain View. A lot. With so much going on and a lot of media attention focused on Mountain View, we decided to help you sort through it and compile some of the top news stories for you in one place. Feel free to add links of stuff we may have missed in the comment section below.
- The National Geographic World Championship came to Google's Mountain View headquarters and so did the international press. Metro News' Ottawa briefly mentioned the loss of the Canadian team, but the Ottawa Citizen gave it a bit more space and highlighted their local kid Alexander Cohen. Of course, NatGeo updated their site with a recap of the day's event and the entire weekend for all the teams.
- Many people come to Mountain View but they head to California Billiard Club and that was the case this past weekend during the WorldPPA Shootout from July 23 to 24. Get a recap of the tournament on AzBilliard.com.
- A group that had previously visited Mountain View for the Android camp at Google was back in the news when the Iowa State school of engineering site wrote about one of its students. The spoke with Hawkeye Taehyun Park felt the experience was valuable.
- Does having less car lanes reduce accidents? That's what the San Jose Mercury examined where it referenced Federal Highway Administration figures showing accidents fell by 6 percent in Mountain View when four-lane roads became three-lane roads.
- Several local volleyball players, including Mountain View High's Hayley Sturgeon and St. Francis High's Alex Espinosa and Maclaine Westendorf, helped their club team earn a bronze medal at the Girls Junior Volleyball in Atlanta, the Los Altos Town Crier reports.
