Police in San Jose are investigating a fatal shooting reported early Thursday, May 30 that marks the city's 20th homicide of 2013.
At about 5:21 a.m., San Jose police received a report of gunshots heard in the 1300 block of Dubert Lane.

"Residents heard shots, heard screaming," San Jose Police Spokesman Officer Albert Morales said.

Police arrived to find a young man shot at least once at the northeast corner of Santee and Audubon drives. The man, who is believed to be about 19 or 20 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene Morales said.

The victim is believed to be in his late teens to early 20s. He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after officers arrived, police said.

The shooting happened right outside Santee Elementary School where classes were canceled Thursday while police swarmed the neighborhood.

No arrests have been made in the case and the motive is not yet clear, but Morales said there is no immediate indication the killing was gang-related.

"It does not appear to be, but it's too early to tell," Morales said.

Homicide investigators are still talking to witnesses, Morales said. The victim's name has not yet been released.

Morales said no students or staff from the school were present at the time of the shooting.
