Update: Missing Cat Found Dead

Johnny Hairball went missing several days ago in Waverly Park.

The hunt for missing cat came to a sad end as he was found dead on Saturday, according to an email from owner Martha.

The "devastated" pet owner feels she was ill-informed of how to rescue him until it was too late.

"I did not get good information about how to look for a missing cat until several days after he disappeared. The conventional wisdom advice from the shelters, many websites, etc., is not specific enough," she wrote, indicating that a more aggressive and comprehensive search-- including combing through backyards-- may have been successful.

What did I tell you? Domestic cats don't belong in the ecosystem, or out and about where they can be hit by cars or suffer some other fate. Hopefully the former owner will learn their lesson, and keep their next cat indoors. But they probably won't.

Let's not jump to conclusions; it's quite possible this cat escaped from inside his home. I am awaiting further clarification from the owner.

Jordan, you are a supremely insensitive jerk. I tried and tried and tried to keep this cat indoors. He escaped a few times when contractors let him out and for weeks after that we did our darndest to keep him in but he was fast as lightning. The second the door was open he was out. It became a losing battle. And I had two cats in this neighborhood who were indoor-outdoor and they lived long, healthy and un-injured lives, one for 13 years (she died of cancer, not related to being outdoors) and the other for 20+ years. And as Avni posted, even indoor-only cats can escape and meet a terrible fate. My family is seriously grieving this cat and all you can do is scold. You have no heart.
