Brian Szabo announced his retirement as executive director from KMVT, which broadcast to more than 100,000 viewers in Cupertino, Los Altos and Mountain View. Since he came on board in 2005, he launched unprecedented services and programming for the residents of these communities.

Monday, August 1

Mountain View tied for the top spot in Santa Clara County for its tobacco-control efforts but received a 'D' from the American Lung Association’s State of Tobacco Control Report 2010.

Officers arrested a man with an ax, a double-bladed, fixed blade knife and a folding knife Friday on Dana and Loreto Streets after he brandished an ax and threatened the life of another man near Evelyn Avenue and Pioneer Way.

Tuesday, August 2

Some cities in the northern regions of Santa Clara County will soon have new electoral districts, including Mountain View, if the California Citizens Redistricting Commission adopts the first draft of maps they released last week.

Local mosques and community center will host events throughout the South Bay open to all who wish to observe and learn more about the Islamic holidays of Ramadan and Eid ul-Fitr.

Thursday, August 4

After one year in Mountain View, the network Cancer Support Community held an official grand opening at its 450 North Whisman Rd. and recognized the 350 people who have used their services to date.

The Mountain View Police Department seeks the public's help to find three black males suspected of armed attempted robbery of a father, son and the son's friend at 240 Ortega Ave. apartment. The suspects fled on foot.

The holy month of Ramadan began this week and Mountain View Patch's food writer Evelyn Share introduces readers to the types of foods the millions of Muslims around the world eat after their daily 16-hour fast.

Friday, August 5

More than 90 people joined in the first ever Startup Slide, hosted by three of Mountain View's downtown startups Saygent, Outright and Polyvore. The event aimed to give employees at startups an outlet where they could have fun and meet others in the process.

During this week's "Bits and Bytes" Tech Roundup we looked at Google's problems with Apple, Oracle and Microsoft, LinkedIn's positive first earnings report, in contrast to Complete Genomics' lackluster quarter, Google’s puchase of daily deal aggregator The Dealmap and Symantec's new CEO.
