Monday, June 27

A Mountain View man received a gunshot to his thigh this afternoon when two men attempted to rob him of his wallet. The victim has been transported to a local hospital where he will undergo surgery, according to Mountain View Police Department Spokeswoman Liz Wylie.

Tuesday, June 28

Housing 1,000 SV kicked off its registry of the homeless in the Santa Clara County and began to count in Mountain View and other areas throughout this week. Participants were issued a survey to help identify and prioritize services based on their health in order to figure out potential housing opportunities for them.

Lt. Jeff Sato, a 30 year veteran of the Mountain View Police Department was publicly honored by the City Council. Sato joined the force on June 1, 1980 and volunteers in Mountain View a scout leader to the Cub Scouts, a member of the Kiwanis Club of Mountain View and a Board of Directors of the Buddhist Temple.

Wednesday, June 29

Undocumented students joined Mandeep Chahal, a 2009 graduate of Los Altos High School, and Jose Antonio Vargas, a 2000 graduate of Mountain View High School, in the Kennedy Caucus Room on Capitol Hill after the U.S. Senate's first-ever hearing on the DREAM Act. Advocates say the mock graduation symbolized the fruition of the potential that many undocumented immigrant youths hold.

Thursday, June 30

Patch reported from Washington, D.C. this week to watch, listen and talk to Mandeep Chahal and Jose Antonio Vargas as the two graduates Mountain View-Los Altos High School Union District advocated for the DREAM Act in the Senate.

Friday, July 1

Patrons of the Los Altos Library—and any of the seven other libraries in the Santa Clara County Library district—will now be charged $80 library card fee—with certain exceptions, This means that Mountain View residents who want to borrow books or use Internet service at county libraries will now have to pay for the privilege.

Privacy issues continue to plague Google as a federal decided to allow lawsuits against the company related to the information gathered by the Street View map cameras. This and more in our weekly "Bits and Bytes" tech column.

Saturday, July 2

The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office reported that this Fourth of July weekend DUI arrests increased compare to 2010. Officers from 15 law enforcement agencies in the county arrested 17 people on suspicion of DUI from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. Friday, the sheriff's office said. Twelve arrests took place during the same period last year.
