Sunday, May 29

Law enforcement continued its weekend-long crackdown on drunk driving over the Memorial Day weekend, reporting 47 arrests in Santa Clara County in the first 48 hours since the campaign began Friday. Mountain View police arrested one person among the 29 arrested in the county during the 24-hour period for Saturday.

Monday, May 30

Tuesday, May 31

Friendster, founded in 2003 in Mountain View and one of the first earliest social networking sites, deleted user accounts Tuesday. Acquired by the Malaysian MOL Global in December 2009 for $39.5 million, the company will focus on gaming in Asia.

Wednesday, June 1

A southbound Caltrain struck and killed Mountain View resident Cecil Joseph Bloch, 63, Wednesday night on the tracks south of the San Antonio station in Mountain View, according to a Caltrain spokeswoman. The man was hit at about 6:50 p.m. The death appears to have been a suicide, the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner's Office said.

Thursday, June 2

Want to feel good about eating out? Then dine in at the home of Mary Burns, who coordinates the Mountain View chapter of Dining for Women, which raises money for women and girls living in poverty.

The Santa Clara County Library District Joint Powers Authority Board voted unanimously on Thursday to exempt students from paying the new $80 non-resident fee if they attend schools whose districts overlap with the boundaries of the county library.

Friday, June 3

Seventy-two Mountain View-Los Altos Adult Education School students celebrated their graduation with a ceremony at Mountain View High Schoo’s Theater on Thursday.

The Mountain View Whisman School District honored and recognized teachers and staff for their commitment to education and years of service. Also awarded were Teacher and Employee of the Year.

Saturday, June 4

The Class of 2011 from Mountain View and Los Altos High Schools graduated on Friday. Click on the links to watch some of the images from the commencement ceremonies. 

During the Central Coast Section Track and Field Championships at Buchanan High in Clovis on Friday Mountain View High’s Sturges and Sinclair moved on to day two of finals, while several MVHS and St. Francis athletes competed in track and field state finals near Fresno.
