Sunday, May 22

The 15th annual A La Carte Festival came to a close after two days of great music, shopping and eating along Castro Street in Mountain View. Hosted by the Central Business Association as a fundraiser for downtown events.

Monday, May 23

The Maker Faire, a do-it-yourself event, was held at the San Mateo Event Center during the weekend, and several Mountain Viewers showed off their stuff to the delight of the thousands of attendees.

Police responded to a call that a man with a gun was inside the Sears store in the San Antonio Shopping Center. However after a complete search and a review of security-camera footage, no gunman was found, and the call was deemed a prank. The MVPD is now attempting to track down the person who called.

Tuesday, May 24

This week's Whiz Kid, Agnes Wang, not only maintains her grade and plays badminton, but she gets involved in humanitarianism and volunteer work with Camp Everytown and the Red Cross. She also collect books to send to China and has raised money for Well Done, which builds wells in Africa.

The Motherload columnist, Autumn Vandiver, considers the effectiveness of parenting workshops and wonders if she's not tough enough with her son. 

Wednesday, May 25

The City Council conditionally approved development of 32 new single-family units at the edge of the Monta Loma neighborhood on the corner of West Middlefield Road and Alvin Street. The homes are priced around $590,000 per unit.

Victoria Greenen and Kelly Hamachi, two Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District students, each won $10,000, officials from Sunnyvale-based Rambus Inc. announced.

Thursday, May 26

In Joni Ratts' column this week, she explores what makes us, because "smiles draw a positive reaction from people around us," she writes. "Wouldn’t it be awesome if I could capture smiles in a glass jar like fireflies so they could light up those dark moments?" Read on here.

Friday, May 27

Today the city announced that Campbell City Manager Dan Rich has been selected as Mountain View's new city manager. Rich has been with the city of Campbell since 2005. Prior to being the city manager for Campbell, Rich spent three years as the city of Belmont's assistant city manager and the interim city manager for 10 months.

Saturday, May 28

San Francisco Giants Shortstop Brandon Crawford hit a grand slam in his first game, which helped the Giants beat the Milwaukee Brewers 5 to 4. Crawford was born in Mountain View and lists Pleasanton as his hometown.
